Improving Educational Outcomes for our Military and Veterans
In the years since the Post-9/11 G.I. Bill took effect, it has come to the attention of the VFW that certain institutions of higher learning – many times predatory for-profit schools – have chosen to prey on those eligible for military and veterans’ education benefits, failing to keep their promise of delivering a quality education.

DISABILITY ASSISTANCE AND MEMORIAL AFFAIRS
The VFW appreciates the intent of this legislation, but believes it will impose an undue burden on VA. It would require VA to make further determinations regarding replacement values in cases of insurance settlements, thus reducing resources available to the timely processing of other pension claims. These additional decisions will further delay and complicate a relatively simple benefit. We urge the committee to craft a less burdensome method for accomplishing this laudable goal.

ECONOMIC OPPORTUNITY
The VFW is pleased to support H.R. 120, which would further extend VA home loan eligibility to surviving spouses of service members who were disabled at the time of death. VFW believes that regardless of time and level of disability of the deceased veteran, the spouse should be provided access to VA home loan program benefits. We hope the committee enacts this legislation so as to benefit spouses, especially at a time when home loans are more difficult to finance.
